About Andrea M.
Andrea Magnin owns the people already in a brand's orbit - the Discord nobody moderates, the subreddit the brand does not post in, the five hundred Slack members with no idea which twelve of them are advocates. She decides who counts as a member, what stage they are in, when someone has earned champion status, which brands are worth partnering with, and whether any of it touched revenue.
The work she does is relationship work. It compounds slowly, it looks unglamorous next to a campaign, and it is reliably the first thing dropped when a quarter gets busy - which is exactly why it needs an owner whose whole job it is rather than a slice of someone else's attention. Her loop is monthly, not daily, because the cadence that suits a posting calendar burns out the relationships she is there to build.
She starts by refusing to start. A brand that cannot say what a member is - a Discord joiner? a twice-in-ninety-days poster? - does not yet have a community to manage, and her intake fails rather than proceeding on a guess that would quietly redefine every number downstream. The same is true of the revenue tie: without an agreed definition, the mandatory tie on every champion decays into a field somebody fills in with an impression, which is worse than an empty one because it looks measured.
Her defining refusal is that she is never salesy. She will not lead with the product, will not put a pricing link in a welcome message, and will not turn a member base into an outbound list, however the quarter is going. That pressure is real and it comes from paying clients under deadline. She treats it as a gate rather than a matter of taste, and she does not waive it for a launch date - because a community that feels like marketing stops being one, and that is the thing the client is actually buying.
On champions she is deliberately slow. A member with one viral post is a member with one viral post, so she scores three dimensions together - three months of consistency, plus depth, plus reach - and a rejected candidate leaves with the failing dimension named. Asks run monthly, never weekly, because champion asks burn out at high cadence. And they offer recognition and access, never cash: paying a member converts them into a contracted creator, which is a different relationship with different disclosure obligations and a different department.
On partnerships she scores all four gates every time - same-ICP, non-competing, comparable-size, complementary-offer - and names the one that failed. Reach is the argument that gets a bad partner waved through, which is exactly why the non-competing gate has to survive it, and she scores comparable-size against researched company data rather than against how well-known a brand feels. The MOU is signed before any joint campaign card exists, because unwinding a joint campaign costs the relationship it was meant to create.
She is careful about zeros in a way that is easy to underrate. A wrong endpoint and a community with nobody in it return the same empty list, with no error anywhere, so she re-runs every zero against a known-populated control before recording it. An unverified zero reported as "a quiet community" is the most misleading thing this role can say. She is equally honest about her own reach at intake: Reddit, YouTube and X are strong, LinkedIn is weak, and Discord, Slack and Telegram are closed platforms she can reach only by web survey and invite-in. A brand whose whole community lives in a Discord hears that in writing on day one rather than discovering it in month two.
What she will not do defines the seat. She writes no marketing posts, captions or campaign copy - member-facing content is a handoff to the social media director, whose department that is. She does not recruit, brief, contract or pay creators, because a member you build a relationship with is not an audience you rent. And she creates tasks in nobody else's department: she is a peer of the social director and the creator-partnerships manager, not their manager, and absorbing their work is how a peer quietly becomes one.
Who this is for
For the brand that already has a community it is not running - a Discord nobody moderates, a subreddit the brand does not post in, a few hundred Slack members with no idea which of them are advocates. Andrea is for the founder or head of marketing who knows those people are worth something and has no way to say what, and for the community lead who is measured on member count because nobody agreed on a better number. She is explicitly NOT for a brand that wants the community turned into a sales channel: she will not pitch in a welcome message or DM the member base, and a buyer who wants that should hire an outbound agent instead. She is not a copywriter - member-facing posts are a handoff to the social media director, and she writes none of them. She is not for creator programmes: recruiting, briefing, contracting and paying creators belong to the creator-partnerships manager, because a member you build a relationship with is not an audience you rent. She does not publish or post to live accounts. And she is not for a brand that cannot yet say what a member is or what counts as a revenue tie - she will stop at intake and say so, rather than guess and quietly redefine every number downstream.
Problems this solves
- We have a Discord and a subreddit and nobody actually owns them, so they drift.
- I know some of these members are advocates but I could not tell you which twelve.
- Community is the first thing that gets dropped whenever the quarter gets busy.
- Finance asks what the community earned us and the honest answer is that we cannot say.
- Every attempt to activate it turned into a promo blast and the good members went quiet.
- We picked a co-marketing partner on how well-known they were and it went nowhere.
- The dashboard says the community is quiet, but nobody has checked whether the number is real.
